.
My words lie trembling on the page
faint daring to exist, near yours
Fumble I, the latch of the cage,
and nervous, spill them forth
.
I cannot help but think them pale
aside those impassioned lines.
Would that my embers catch a blaze
from a soul that burns with such fire
.
Paired together in a poem
Might my words take flight?
Baby birds kicked from the nest
on your open hands alight.
.
Could they touch a tender heart,
trail longing down your veins,
chocolates waiting for the reveal
your regard on the wrappings find?
.
Take then this yearn and bind it true,
entwine our care and craft with fate.
Ink the spell that we consume
when poetry collaborates

This is such a lovely idea, Roger. I especially like the thought of two imperfect voices becoming something neither could have written alone.
And “poetry collaborates” feels like exactly the right title for the experiment.
Thank you for sharing this. I enjoyed reading it very much.
I love the humility in this. The poem doesn't celebrate one voice over another—it suggests that something new is born only when two voices trust each other enough to write side by side. A beautiful reflection on poetry as shared creation.
